Elliot Israel: Not being able to breathe is an awful, awful experience.
Mario Castro: You know asthma is not just a simple disease, it’s a disease that can be quite devastating.
Lisa France: It can be very frustrating when you’re doing everything that you’re supposed to be doing and you still don’t feel well.
Elliot Israel: Getting up in the morning and feeling bad, feeling like you can’t catch your breath, feeling like you’re not sure whether you’re going to have the energy to go on during the day.
Sally Wenzel: And certainly it’s one of those diseases that you don’t necessarily look like you’re sick, and so many people don’t really appreciate that you’re struggling.
Lisa France: People living with severe asthma, they miss a lot of work, a lot of school, there’s a lot of doctor’s appointments.
Mario Castro: Sometimes they become short of breath just with showering every day, everything becomes a task for them.
Elliot Israel: The way we identify patients who have asthma severe asthma is we say that they are patients who despite the fact that we’ve given them most of the common medications that we know to use to treat asthma, they still are not completely cured.
Victoria Forth: And it also disproportionately affects Hispanic and Black individuals. They die at higher rates from severe asthma.
Elliot Israel: A world without severe asthma is a world where we’ve eliminated suffering for a significant proportion of the population.
