Participants

We appreciate you all!

We thank our 358 participants (329 adults and 29 adolescents) and who have enrolled in the PrecISE study for their time and contributions.

Our study enrollment is now closed, but you can find resources about our study participation requirements below.

  • PrecISE study centers recruited 329 adults and 29 adolescents (ages 12 years and older), for a total of 358 participants from over 30 sites in the US. The study participants met the criteria for severe asthma that is not well-controlled or with frequent asthma attacks.

  • As a part of PrecISE research, participants will be assigned a treatment that targets their type of severe asthma. The type of severe asthma will be determined using biomarkers. Biomarkers are bits of information about someone based on data gathered from tests, including blood tests. The likelihood for a participant to receive a therapy will change based on new data that will be collected during the study. Adult participants in PrecISE research may receive at least three treatments, and up to five treatments. Adolescents may receive up to two treatments.

  • PrecISE will research new treatments in groups of patients characterized by their bodies' specific disease pathways in order to research treatments for each group. PrecISE will include participants with severe asthma to research new treatments.

  • Current asthma medicines often don’t work well for people who have severe asthma.

Even when taking these medicines, people with severe asthma often continue to have daily symptoms (difficulty breathing, wheezing, chest tightness) and a greater risk of asthma attacks.

  • Participants are assigned a treatment  for their specific type of severe asthma, though the medications change during the study.

Adults in the PrecISE study will receive between 2 and 5 different treatments over the course of the study. Adolescents will receive up to 2 different treatments.

    • Answer questions about their medical history, asthma symptoms, and quality of life
    • Receive physical exams, blood and urine tests, breathing tests, and a chest CT scan
    • Complete tasks at home (e-diary, home breathing tests)
