April 17, 2019 -Precision Medicine Studies: New Panel Discussion and Research Paper

An international group of experts met to discuss the gaps in understanding of severe asthma, and barriers that need to be overcome in order to conduct more efficient research studies that result in more effective treatments for patients.

The importance of understanding individual patients’ disease biology and how it relates to their symptoms is recognized and believed to be important in determining which medicines will be effective for specific patients.

This expert panel also emphasizes the need for physicians, researchers, patients, funding agencies, and drug companies need to work together, across the world, to increase knowledge of the disease and participation in specially designed clinical studies that will identify the types of severe asthma and the best treatments for each.

See the full summary of the panel discussion in this publication in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine here.
